What we're most excited about on the new Community site
Part 1 of 2
Emma, Lotte and Mathilde looking cool (Gemini generated picture but the looking cool part is our own thing)
Emma:
"It’s hard to know where to begin because I’ve seen under the hood and I’m looking at the site and it’s all just a little bit magical really. The homepage is so engaging and it’s not just good-looking, it is also really useful. If I landed here without knowing ‘us’ I’d be keen to know more.
But to choose just one thing, it has to be the open source repository on github. I know that’s cheating but to have a fully functioning, good-looking, beautifully architected site that’s also as open source as the community it serves… just wow. We’re not just asking people to get involved, we are using the place that houses that invitation as a place that folks can actually contribute. So yes. It’s not a section but it’s the whole site itself. It’s reason for being. I can’t wait to hear what's wrong with it. And then to see community people fix it. It is the true spirit of open source in action."
Lotte:
I’m most excited about the future, as in what else we can add to the site! Work is already underway with Community Profiles (working title) to allow people to easily showcase their activities. This will then lead into an improved MVP application process ready for the 2027 season. But then there’s also supporting festivals and meetups, helping agencies find contribution opportunities and … the list goes on! We’re working on a roadmap for the community site itself, but for now if you have any great ideas you’re most welcome to tell us your ideas on the repo!
Mathilde:
"I’m very excited about the new navigation structure and how the information is organized. It is very important to me that the site is easy to navigate and that users can find the information they need easily, as I think it could be a challenge to find exactly what you were looking for on the old website. I also really like the dedicated pages we have created for Umbraco newcomers and for agencies looking to contribute - this hopefully makes it easier for everyone to get started and take those first steps. I look forward to expanding these pages with more hands-on approaches and with real world stories within the near future."
We want to hear from you!
What is your favorite part about the new Community site? What did we get right? And maybe more importantly, what didn't we get right? We want to make this Community site better for you - so please tell us your ideas on the repo or contact us at community@umbraco.com and let us know what we can improve on.
