Community Roadmap

At Umbraco HQ we want to build with you not just for you. See where we're heading and let us know what you think!

What you'll find in "Now"
Projects that we are currently working on. If they are of interest to you and you're not already talking to us, please get in touch.

What you'll find in "Next"
Initiatives that we have started discussing internally (and perhaps externally) and begun planning. Let us know if you see yourself being involved...

What you'll find in "Future"
Initiatives that are on our list for the future. We may not be all that ready to talk about them, but you're welcome to send us your thoughts!

Now

  • Nurturing and reimagining festivals

We’re actively supporting the evolution of community-led events by creating a new guide to make it easier for organizers to get started. It will outline how HQ can support festivals - from branding and naming to logistics and promotion - and clarify expectations and guidelines for collaboration.

The German Festival is hoping to restart after a 7-year pause - sparked by the reboot of German meetups following the legendary Cheese Wheel Incident in October last year. We're discussing a Benelux Festival, and the planning for the first ever Indian Umbraco Festival is just beginning. Plus we're excited to support a re-imagined UK event, back in London after a year's break.

  • Launching the Umbraco in AI Community Team and AI in Umbraco Advisory Boards

We’re introducing two new initiatives focused on strengthening our work with AI:

The Umbraco in AI Community Team will explore how Umbraco evolves in a world where AI increasingly supports developers. This team brings together experienced Umbraco practitioners to experiment, learn, and help shape how AI is used responsibly and effectively in building real-world Umbraco solutions.

The AI in Umbraco Advisory Board will work closely with Umbraco HQ on defining and shaping the AI packages we ship as part of the modular AI layer.

  • The Community Site

We’re now developing using the latest version of Umbraco in Umbraco Cloud. Our current focus is updating and adapting content from the old site to the new site, ensuring the site is easy to navigate and information is easily found.

We’re also working on creating a distinct visual identity for the Community site - something that stands apart from umbraco.com and codegarden.umbraco.com, while still being Umbraco.

  • MVP applications

MVP applications and nominations are currently open. Nominations close March 3rd and applications close March 31st. After this, the DevRel team will begin the MVP selection process and notify the applicants.

  • Improving support for meetups

We’re exploring how we can better support meetups going forward. As part of this work, we’ve brought together organizers from all Umbraco meetup groups in a shared Slack channel, creating an easier space for collaboration between HQ and community organizers.

Next

  • Make the Community website open source

We want to make the Community website open source for everyone to explore the code, learn from it, and help make it better. This will create a more transparent, collaborative foundation for the site and invite contributions from across the community.

  • Newcomers initiative

We want to look closer at how we can best help and welcome new people into the community

  • Spot HQ "in the wild"

We want to review our event calendar to make it easier for the Community to see where they can meet HQ’ers “in the wild” - meaning at conferences, meetups, and gatherings around the world. The goal is to spark more conversations, connections, and collaboration between HQ and community members wherever we show up.

  • Launch an Events Community Team

We want to launch a new Events Community Team that brings together community event organizers and the Umbraco Events Team. The goal is to strengthen collaboration, share knowledge, and support each other in creating even better events across the ecosystem.

  • Planning the MVP Summit 2026

The MVP Summit 2026 will take place the two days before Codegarden.

Future

  • Community Website Profiles

We want to introduce more dynamic community profiles on the Community website. These profiles will make it easier to follow people’s community journey, contributions, and history across the ecosystem.

  • Community in the Age of AI

We want to take a look at how AI impacts technical communities.
