Do you care about security and privacy in the CMS? Join the new security and privacy team

  • Are you a business professional interested in fostering secure digital experiences?

  • Do you care deeply about protecting users' data and ensuring digital safety?

  • Are you an Umbraco developer, designer or supporter passionate about security and privacy?

Then... we want you!

Why a security and privacy team?

One of the top 10 risks identified by the World Economic Forum is "cyber insecurity". The global cost of cybercrime is estimated to reach $10.5 trillion by 2025 and - besides being critical to businesses in general - the global cyber inequity is increasing and SMEs are disproportionately affected.

Governments and other political organisations take the growing threat more and more seriously, and we see many regulations and principles formulated these years - e.g. the Cyber Resilience Act, AI Act, NIS2, AI Bill of Rights and various Privacy acts in the USA.

They are all relevant and welcomed initiatives, but as a web agency or end client, it can be difficult to navigate.

With this team, we want to raise awareness, promote best practices, and mature and develop ideas on how the Umbraco CMS can support more and safer digital experiences.

Thus the team will work on defining the best practices for safe implementations and usage of Umbraco, no matter if you are using it just as a CMS or as a part of a bigger digital experience.

A sub-team within the team

As a very small sub-team within the team, we hope to find one or two candidates who’ll be able to also work as "incident advisors".

Today, when we find or receive reported security issues, we score them according to the CVSS rating system, however, such scoring is not set in stone.

We therefore believe that being able to discuss concrete issues with one or two community people would be helpful and would contribute to a more trusted score and in consequence more relevant actions. Candidates for this specific role should have a broad technical insight.

Who can join the team?

We aim for a diverse team, who can gain and share insight into all aspects of working with Umbraco. So, no matter if you work in a business role, with support, development, design or something else we hope to see your application - as long as you are passionate about delivering safe digital solutions and have some insight into Umbraco.

The sub-team will collaborate closely with Bjarke Berg, Head of CMS, while the entire team will be overseen by Lasse Fredslund, Umbraco CMS product owner.

What do we expect from you?

We expect to meet a couple of hours once per month online and a few full days per year as part of our annual community meetup at HQ.

Interested? Let us know!

The application closes on June 30, 2024 (at 23:59:59 CEST). Shortly thereafter, we hope to be able to welcome 7-8 members with different backgrounds to the security & privacy community team - maybe you are one of them?
