The Umbraco community is growing, so how we interact and communicate together is more important than ever! Thanks to the events at Twitter the past few years we’ve seen the community splinter across multiple different platforms, in search for a place to hang out.
As such, we are forming an advisory board to help us figure out the best way to support you, the community members who not only enjoy hanging out but also doing so much great work to share Umbraco.
We have a few broad topics that we’re thinking about but with your input, who knows where we’ll end up? It is an exciting prospect! Here are some things that are on our minds:
Our Umbraco
Let’s start with the big one. Our Umbraco was built 15 years ago now, first on Umbraco 4.
The site has slowly been upgraded to version 7 where we’re now a little bit stuck.. All the things that have been bolted on over time makes it very difficult to upgrade. Additionally, spammers have found us as well, making our lives harder.
Community hub
We always wanted Our Umbraco to be a community hub, you go to Our to read the pulse of the community. Instead, it quickly just turned into “the forum”. With the recent splintering of the community we started dreaming about this hub again, what would it look like to have a wonderful stream of all the important things happening in the world for people who “do” Umbraco?
Umbraco is moving at a rapid pace and it’s hard to keep up, so let’s imagine an environment where you can catch up and go into details that are of particular interest to you.
Encouraging participation
We love welcoming new people to our community and for that reason we have embraced many platforms like Our, Mastodon, Discord, etc. But we are keenly aware that it is not always easy to sign up and get going; how DO you even get going? “Okay, I’ve arrived, but now what?”.
It’s been amazing to see over the years how many people get inspired to participate in the community. But we are also aware of the phenomenon of dark matter developers and we know there are people who just need that little extra push. Can we facilitate that somehow?
Is your brain buzzing with brilliant ideas?
If you are reading this and sparks of ideas are already popping up, then there’s a good chance that you are the exact person we’re looking for!
We are looking for a diverse group of people on any end of the Umbraco community spectrum. If you’re brand new, or have been around for years, or maybe you have great experiences with other communities: we want you!
We’re looking to form a board of about 8-10 people who would be happy to spend about one to two hours a month with us on a video call. We’re limiting the term for board members to 12 months.
During the process we'll share some of our ideas in written form as well so that the broader community an feed back on our dreams as well.
Get in touch with us by filling out the form below! The application closes on June 30, 2024 (at 23:59:59 CEST). Shortly thereafter, we hope to welcome 8-10 great people to the board - maybe you?
If you have any questions, thoughts, ideas about this new advisory board, please reach out to Lotte at lpi@umbraco.dk or on Discord!
