Open-source thrives on collaboration, and we need your help!

What is the community documentation team?

With Umbraco 14, we introduced a brand-new frontend architecture for the Umbraco backoffice that future-proofs the Umbraco CMS for years to come. But with such a big leap forward, there’s a challenge: parts of the affected documentation haven’t fully caught up. Many articles still reference the pre-Bellisima world, making it harder for developers to adopt the latest versions.

This is where the Umbraco Community expertise comes into play. You know better than anyone how the Umbraco documentation is used in real-world projects - where it helps, where it falls short, and most importantly, how we can improve it to make implementing Umbraco easier for everyone.

That’s why we’re launching the Community Docs Team 2025, a focused, time-boxed initiative to update and improve parts of the Umbraco documentation.

Why Join?

  • Be part of an impactful project that benefits thousands of other developers.
  • Gain deep knowledge of Umbraco’s new frontend architecture,
  • Work alongside the Umbraco HQ team and fellow community contributors,
  • Help shape the documentation from an implementer's point of view,
  • Help ensure Umbraco remains the best open-source CMS - together!

What’s the Plan?

If you (like me!) love a structured, well-defined project, you’re in for a treat.

We’ve identified around 30 articles that need updates, ranging in length and complexity. This includes:

  • Updating code examples and screenshots
  • Validating steps and workflows
  • Ensuring references to the right technologies and methods

With the help of this dedicated team, along with support from the Core Collaborators Team and Umbraco HQ, our goal is to complete the updates by the end of 2025.

We’ll be running this as a project with bi-weekly check-ins, starting in mid-June, to track progress, answer questions, provide guidance, and of course cheer for each other 🎉 as we tackle the prioritized articles.

Community Teams Visit - September 2025

As part of the team, you’ll also be invited to Odense, Denmark, for a three-day meetup during Umbraco’s Community Teams Visit!

Here we get to collaborate in-person on our docs project, connect with fellow community members, and enjoy a great time together. Travel, accommodation, and catering are fully covered by Umbraco HQ.

Who are we looking for?

If you know Umbraco, love Open source, and enjoy knowledge sharing, we’d love to hear from you! 👏

Bonus points are given if you have experience building websites or packages with the new backoffice architecture.

Employee Sponsorship

Since this is a time-boxed project with a clear deadline, we want to be mindful of your work-life balance. Ideally, your employer can sponsor your participation by setting aside a few hours per week for your work on the Docs Team.

If your employer is already a Platinum or Gold Partner, they automatically qualify for Contributing Partner status by supporting your participation!

Your involvement benefits both you and your employer by:

  • Building strong connections in the Umbraco community
  • Gaining deep technical insights into Umbraco’s modern frontend framework
  • Contributing to improving Umbraco for thousands of developers worldwide (plus some well-earned bragging rights! 🙌)
